While checking my email box one morning, I came across an urgent message from Noa’s mom. It was a similar message to those I receive all too often, and I always feel such compassion for these desperate moms and dads who reach out to me!
“My baby is 13 days old today. We had planned to have newborn photos taken by another photographer who has had to cancel due to a serious illness. I am desperate to find a photographer who might by some miracle have time in the next few days for a newborn photo session. I love the work in your gallery and am hoping that you might have something in your schedule to accommodate us. We are very sad about the possibility that we will lose this opportunity to obtain newborn photos for our daughter….”
I always feel for parents who come to me seeking their baby’s session in the eleventh hour. Either because their photographer has cancelled for some reason, or worse yet, they’ve received their newborn photos and weren’t satisfied with the results. I will usually try my hardest to squeeze them in as quickly as possible, and when I’m not able to accommodate them, it just breaks my heart. I understand how devastating it is to miss out on having photographic memories of their new little bundle when they are so fresh and tiny! The newborn photography window is so very short, and those first couple weeks fly by so quickly.
It just so happened that the day Noa’s mom reached out was my only free day of that week. Since I usually try to photograph my newborns in the first 14 days, I really wouldn’t have recommended waiting too much longer since Noa had already reached day 13. So without hesitation, I emailed right back suggesting the possibility of doing the session that same day. I figured it was a long shot, but it was totally worth a shot. Sure enough, she was elated and headed over within a couple hours. It couldn’t have worked out better, and we were able to plan and execute the session within two hours of talking! Meeting baby Noa and her wonderfully kind and thoughtful mama was a delightful surprise for my Wednesday morning! So glad we were able to make the session work, and that this family will have beautiful memories of their sweet baby girl while she was still so tiny.
