A springtime flower garden newborn session with a peaches and cream color palette was the plan. My mind was swirling with inspiration as I awaited for Aurora to arrive! Her newborn session was going to be sooo gorgeous and I couldn’t wait to bring it all together!
Aurora’s mom had seen my garden themed newborn session and loved it, so we planned a similar idea for Aurora using a color palette of peaches and cream with a hint of springtime green. We did a few cute sets using peaches and creams, and then moved on to the pièce de résistance. After carefully arranging the colorful silk flowers, we laid Aurora right into the bed of blooms. She snuggled in, dreaming peacefully as I took a zillion images. It was perfection.

The story of Aurora…
Sharing the news: “I called my husband and blurted it out! I couldn’t help it! I just told him straight away! We were trying for a baby but it didn’t happen right away, and when it finally did, I was pretty shocked even though we were definitely trying, and didn’t even want to try and surprise him or tell him in a cool way, I was too excited and terrified all at the same time!
We told his sisters, brother and aunt by taking them to dinner, 2 live out of town so it was perfect because all were in town at the same time and dinner together wasn’t at all suspicious because they are all so close. We wrote a note on a card and hid the cards under the appetizer plates. We then had our waitress come into where we were all sitting and announce that the precious party that used the room had misplaced her bracelet, she asked us to look everywhere even under the plates. As soon as they found the note they read it so fast and as soon as it registered they all literally lost it and screamed as loud as they could, a lot of screaming and crying in the best way! It was so amazing! And their reaction was the best!
I told my mom and brother by showing them my HCG result from the doctor with a picture of a sonogram behind the results, not my sonogram — too early — but just to jolt them into realization. But neither flipped the pages they just stared at the HCG results in bewilderment and I actually had to tell them to keep looking through the pages…. I told them that some mail had come to my house w. Their name on it to make it less obvious.
When my mom finally realized what I was trying to tell her she immediately started crying, she was soooo happy, its her first grandchild.
My brother was equally happy to realize he was going to be an uncle!”
Pregnancy Moments: “Aside from developing preeclampsia and having the most swollen feet and ankles of my life, not really. My pregnancy was thankfully, quite uneventful! I didn’t have to go to the hospital prior to me actually delivering, and I didn’t develop any other issues throughout.”
Pregnancy Cravings: “I craved sour things at the beginning of my pregnancy and citrus, lots of orange juice, oranges and clementine. Sometimes I would also crave things that I saw on TV, essentially I saw it and it made me want to eat it. I remember I saw a baked potato on TV and made them not long after that.”
Naming Aurora: “Her first name does not, we just both finally agreed on that name as we were going through a name book. My husband and I both thought the name was so beautiful and it stuck. We had picked out a handful of other names that landed in the “maybe” pile, but Aurora stuck and we could not get over it. We knew it was going to be her name. Her middle name, Marie, does have significance. It was my husband’s late mother’s middle name. Our niece already has his mother’s first name as her middle name, so we decided to honor her by using her middle name as Aurora’s middle name.”
The moment we met her: “Such a mix of emotions. I was so nervous I would not get all the “feels” when I became a mother. I was scared more than anything. I also was not sure I wanted to be a mom, I knew my husband was going to be an amazing dad, but I was not convinced I would be a great mom. But as soon as I saw her and held her for the first time, all of that doubt went away and I cannot imagine not having her here. All I can say is what “they” say is true, meeting her for the first time is the best thing I’ve ever experienced. The instant love and infatuation has been the best and most overwhelming feeling I have ever had.”
First thing we noticed: “Her face, hands, and all of her hair!”
Favorite Features: “I love her facial expressions she makes right now. I call it her “O” face, or her inquisitive look, it is my favorite. Also, I know a baby’s eye color is not permanent for a while, but right now, her eyes are the prettiest shade of blue. Her outer iris is a deep cool blue, then toward the center the blue becomes lighter, to an almost white hue, it is the prettiest thing I’ve ever seen.”
Favorite Moments: “I love seeing my husband hold her and take care of her, it absolutely melts my heart. I loved seeing his sister’s reactions and his aunt’s and grandma’s reaction to meeting her for the first time. They all cried. I am crying now thinking about it. They love her so much. Seeing my mom with her is amazing, it is her first grandchild. I do not think she can love anything more! I just love watching her when she is awake, she looks around and takes everything in. I don’t want to put her down sometimes because I don’t want to miss her expressions and wandering eyes as she takes in her surroundings. It is amazing to watch. Everything is so much different than I had imagined, in the best way possible. My fear is gone and it has been replaced with confidence.”
Adorable things she does: “Her cry when she’s really angry is the cutest thing I think I have ever heard. I compare it to an angry little man and it cracks me up. Also, all of her facial expressions are the best! Also, she does this thing when she does not want to eat anymore where she shakes her head back and forth, like she is saying no, no, no! I also love that when she is crying in her bassinet, as soon as my husband or I pick her up, every time, she is instantly consoled. Sure, sometimes it does not last, but it’s amazing that as soon as we hold her, she is content and looks up at us with her wandering eyes and it’s as if all is right in the world in that moment.”
“Being a mom is by far the best thing that I have ever done or will do in my life and I am amazed every day how happy I am now that my baby is here! I find myself thinking about how excited I am for her to wake up from her next nap so I can see what she is going to do next! This truly is a love like no other.”
