August is always a really busy month for me, but I was excited when I opened an email from Sebastian’s mom. She’d found my work via Yelp, and had reached right out. “Your gallery is absolutely beautiful and I’d love to have you photograph Sebastian,” she’s said in her initial inquiry. She’d already spent time looking through my newborn photography galleries loving what she’d seen, and I just knew I had to make the room to photograph her new little bundle! Sebastian was already 7 days old, so we set up his session for that next week, on his 12th day.
As I normally do while planning and prepping for the perfect newborn photo session, I asked Sebastian’s mom if she had any particular thoughts or ideas. She is a HUGE Winnie the Pooh fan, (which also happened to be his nursery theme) so she was sure she wanted to incorporate Pooh into his session. She planned to bring along some of the items used at his baby shower, along with a collection of Pooh stuffed animals, which combined nicely with my brown bear hat to create a complete cast of Pooh characters. In addition to the Pooh idea, Sebastian’s daddy is a cellist, so we were sure to add some musical inspiration into the session too! It was fun using lots of inspiration to bring those ideas to life, and teeny tiny Sebastian was the perfect little subject!

Sebastian’s Story…
“We told our family over Christmas. We wrapped a frame that said “I love my grandparents” and put his ultrasound photo in it to give to my parents. We then video recorded them opening the present. My mom immediately started crying when she opened it!”
“When I first saw Sebastian, my heart just melted. I knew I loved him more than anything and that I was so lucky to be his mother.”
The first thing I noticed: “His face looked exactly like the ultrasound photo. He was tiny, but so beautiful.”
Favorite features: “We love his chin dimple! Also, the little lines in his forehead when he gets upset!”
Favorite moments: “Whenever we have skin to skin and I can feel his little heart beat against my chest. I just melt.”
His personality traits & adorable things he does: “He has the most dramatic sneeze! The house shakes from him sneezing so hard!”
The one thing I never want to forget: “The way his little head fits into the nook of my arm. It’s like we were meant to be mother and son!”
